AGARTALA,September 20 (TIWN): After tremendous pressure from all corners and widespread media publication on the Rs 17 crore MGNREGA scam, BDO Bishalgarh RD Block Subrata Das lodged FIR against the then BDO of the block Bimal Chakraborty in Bishalgarh Police station . Police registered a case in this issue (Case no-135/14) under section 409 of IPC. BDO Subrata Das also lodged complaints against four IOs in this case. It is to be mentioned here that in the special Internal Audit Report of MGNREGA for the FY 2012-13 and FY 2013-14, massive misappropriation of more than Rs 17 crore was found. The special Internal Audit wad audited during 05/05/2014 to 30/06/2014. Only on Friday noon, a five member PCC delegates met the Chief Secretary G Kameswar Rao demanding CBI probe in the MGNREGA scam in Bishalgarh R D Block. In the evening, BDO Subrata Das lodged FIR against the former BDO Bimal Chakraborty and four more IOs.

Bimal Chakraborty is the brother of DYFI State Unit Secretary Amal Chakraborty.  Apart from this, his another brother Kamal Chakraborty is now the Commandant of 11 BN TSR . Bimal Chakraborty was appointed as a Panchayat Extension Officer in MataBari RD Block way back in 1997. From the very beginning, Bimal Chakraborty was under the scanner of his higher officials due to his doubtful activities. But none could have done anything as he hails from a politically influential family of the ruling party CPI(M).

Maybe because of the political influence of Bimal Chakraborty, neither O C Bishalgarh nor BDO Bishalgarh received TRIPURAINFOWAY.com's phone calls. Even the officials in Bishalgarh police station did not mention the names of 4 IOs against whom FIR was lodged.  

Earlier on Thrusday, Opposition Leader Sudip Roy Barman challenged Chief Minister Sarkar to put the internal audit report for probe and demanded that an investigation on the document speaking on sixteen irregularities found during internal audit be constituted and handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The opposition leader further said that Bhanulal Saha, recently inducted into the state cabinet, was inducted in the list of ministers to hush up the scam.

“We have reasons to believe that Finance Minister Saha is directly or indirectly involved with each of the scams. We demand his ousting from the cabinet and a CBI enquiry on the subject”, Roy Barman said.

However, with a motive to neutralize the entire episode, the concerned BDO Bimal Chakraborty has been moved away from his earlier office to the Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) department of Minister Bhanulal Saha; but who is/are actually behind the embezzlement of public fund and whether the corrupted breed of people will be booked by law or not – these questions still remain unanswered.
