Agartala, September 19 (TIWN): Senior MLA Gopal Chandra Roy today sought intervention of Governor Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya over alleged conspiracy of the ruling Left Front government against state government employees and pensioners.

In a letter to the Governor, MLA Gopal Roy said that among 29 states of the country, Tripura is the only state which hasn’t given central pay scale, grade pay and Dearness Allowance (DA) at par with the centre to employees and pensioners,

“Pay and allowances drawn by serving employees and pensioners by retired employees in Tripura are the lowest in the country. This can be proven on record”, Roy said.

He alleged that Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was liable for deprivation of employees and stated that the CM reportedly avoided issues of clearing dues of employees by speaking on the need of launching new vote-catching unproductive schemes.

He said that the state government had made deliberate schemes for depriving employees and pensioners of their worthy awards by denying hike in DA and grade pay ahead of submitting liabilities statement to the 14th Finance Commission.

“The 14th Finance Commission would submit its detailed recommendations on October 31 and the centre would implement recommendations without any change or addition after passing it in the Parliament. The state government hasn’t given the employees grade pay, 43 percent of DA and central pay scales by taking a cabinet decision and notifying the same to the Finance Commission”, Roy said.

He said that since the state government hasn’t spent any money on record, the 14th Finance Commission will never would never give funds for it.

He said that the state government’s campaign of deprivation by the 13th Finance Commission was a ‘wicked excuse’ to continue deprivation against the employees.

Roy said that employees and pensioners in the state are found earning less than daily labourers, masons and other menial workers. He sought immediate intervention from the Governor into the issue and sought instruction from the gubernatorial office to end exploitation of the employees, pensioners.
