AGARTALA, July 19 (TIWN): After BJP led State Govt in Tripura has decided to adopt a New Pension Scheme followed by the National Pension scheme-2004, CPI-M MLA Badal Choudhury said, only Tripura and West Bengal rejected the Congress Govt led NPS (National Pension Scheme).“Congress Govt started the NPS in 2004 but only CPI-M in Tripura and Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal had saved the previous pension scheme, which goes against the cruelty of No Pensionâ€, Choudhury said. Choudhury also mentioned that pensions are the fundamental rights of employees and govt should not leave their staffs at old age. “Tripura was the last state to continue pension with its limited capacity except West Bengal. Once the pension scheme is changed, then it will be tough for new state govt to implement the new schemesâ€, Choudhury added.
However, state govt in it’s notification said, “Pension liabilities growing over years. The situation has been aggravated as there is no asset to back this liabilities… Pension liabilities of the Govt of Tripura has been increased from Rs. 267.35 croes in 2006-07 Rs.1606.01 which Is 6 times jump in the pension expenditure…The State govt has approved the new defined contributory pension scheme to all to all new entrants to state govt service joining on or after 2018, July 1st”.
