MELAGHAR / AGARTALA, July 16 (TIWN): Tripura Tourism Minister Pranajit Singha Roy along with MLA Subash Das and local administration on Monday has visited Neer Mahal in Melaghar, one of the most beautiful tourist spots in Northeast state Tripura. Talking to TIWN, SDM Saju Vaheed said that at first the Minister had visited the guest house and in a meeting at there it was decided that the guest houses will be upgraded and new guest houses to be constructed for the tourists' comfort. "Some new Projects to be taken in hand for Neer Mahal development, whereas the pending projects of PWD will be launched. The shops which are built beside Rudra Sagar will also to be brought under proper shape and whole the area to be reorganized. The overall meeting was conducted for the development and upgradration of Neer Mahal”, SDM Vaheed said. Vaheed further has confirmed, the fund for water project at Neer Mahal is already in hand and many pending projects which were in pause will be started. Being asked about the pathetic roadway condition of Melaghar which obstructs tourism, Vaheed said, no such discussion was held in this regard.

The SDM also mentioned, it has not been decided when the Neer Mahal festival will be conducted. There are two fairs each year and one of them is held in September month but the Neer Mahal festival is conducted in January generally, even though last year it was held in September. Discussion was held whether both the festivals will be merged together or not. However, nothing has been finalized yet in this regard.

Neer Mahal is a former royal palace built by King Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur of the erstwhile Kingdom of Tripura, India in the middle of the lake Rudrasagar in 1930 and was completed by 1938.

The Minister has alleged ‘heavy negligence’ of the previous state govt in Neer Mahar maintenance.

Also, the descriptions have been put in wrong manner in the palace as ‘Thakur Ghor’ has been marked as ‘Bathroom’, according to the Minister’s claim before media. The sound & lighting system was also found in negligence.
