AGARTALA, April 24 (TIWN): Chief Minister Biplab Deb’s demand of appointing teachers without B.Ed qualification till 2020 is turning heavy upon the state govt. The issue was raised after the CM in his last Delhi visit urged the Central Govt to grant permission to appoint teachers without professional qualification in Tripura. In the morning, the undergoing B.Ed students came to meet the CM to ask him reason behind such an unethical demand from the Centre when the same CM before coming in power promised, there will be no compromise with the "quality education". But today CM has denied to meet the students and after that, the students blocked road at Secretariat, blocking Ministers' movements. Their demands are ethical as if practically seen it's true that 50 % marks are not actually enough for B.Ed, but when a student gets chance in Govt-B.Ed college, from Madhyamik to University all marks are counted together. After that the students who are selected among thousands of applicants, if checked it will be found that totaling their academic marks they had to score above 70 % to get chance in B.Ed govt-degree college.
In this situation, the resentments of the students are very relevant to the issue.
Govt perhaps could appoint teachers in contract by checking marks and proper qualification and after they complete B.Ed, they can sit in the TET again, instead of directly appointing them as Asst Teachers. With all these, sharp reaction have been come, as the newly charged BJP Govt yet to understand that rather than unemployment, the resentment against “Biased Recruitment” had downed CPI-M’s vessels.
The BJP government in Tripura has urged the Centre for one-time relaxation in academic and other qualifications to facilitate recruitment of 12,222 teachers to overcome their shortage in the state, an official said on Saturday.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb met the Prime Minister's Principal Secretary Nripendra Mishra on Friday in New Delhi and took up the state's six demands, including recruitment of teachers.
"Deb told Mishra that if the Human Resource Development Ministry did not relax the academic and other qualifications of teachers as laid down by the NCTE (National Council For Teacher Education) the state would not be able to recruit 12,222 teachers," the official posted in the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) here said.
According to the Right of the Child to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act of 2009 and NCTE guidelines, Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) is mandatory for recruitment of teachers in government schools.
To appear for the TET, the candidate ought to have 50 per cent marks in certain subjects and a Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Elementary Education or Diploma in Education.
