UDAIPUR, April 15 (TIWN): Like every year, this year also thousands of devotees have been gathering at Matabari in Udaipur since the early morning to offer prayers to Ma Tripura Sundari Goddess, the temple which is 500 years old built by the then king Dhanya Manikya. Till day, Matabari is known as the most pious place located on the heart of Northeast state Tripura. Thousands of devotees are standing in rows for "Devi Darshan" and to offer "Bhogs" to Tripura Sundari Goddess. Many devotees are taking holy baths in Kalyan Sagar, the lake of Matabari. However, lots of beggars have also sat on two sides of the stairs of Matabari. Due to ‘holy baths’ fishes and tortoises have been seen in less numbers today. Many vehicles, bikes have started their maiden journey after ‘Pohela Baishakh’ jatra at the Matabari.

The rush of devotees have been controlled peacefully with high security led by all High Police Officials' under Gomati Dist, who are physically present at Matabari.

At early morning after 'Snan' (bath) Devi Tripura Sundari was decorated with jewelleries. It was followed by Nitya-Puja, Boli (sacrifice of goats), Maha-Snan. The Sandya-Arati (Evening Prayer) will begin from 7.30 PM and the main Diwali Puja is from 9.30 PM to 11.52 PM.

Tripura Sundari Temple is situated in the ancient Udaipur about 55 km from Capital City Agartala believed to be one of the holiest Hindu shrines in this part of the country. Popularly known as Matabari, crowns in a small hillock and is served by the red-robed priests who traditionally, minister to the mother goddess Tripura Sundari. 

Considered to be one of the 51 Shakti Pithas, consists of a square type sanctum of the typical Bengali hut. It is believed that Sati's right foot fell here during Lord Shiva's Dance. The temple consist a square type sanctum with a conical dome. It was constructed by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya  in 1501A.D, there are two identical images of the same deity inside the temple. They are known as Tripura Sundari (5 feet high) and Chhotima (2 feet high) in Tripura. The idol of Kali is worshiped at the temple of Tripura Sundari in the form of 'Soroshi'. One is made of kasti stone which is reddish black in colour. It is believed that the idol was Chhotima was carried by king in battlefield. This temple is also known as Kurma Pitha because it the temple premises resembles kurma i.e. tortoise.
