New Delhi, Aug 1 (TIWN) Rajasthan Royals skipper Steve Smith has expressed his disappointment regarding this year's Indian Premier League (IPL) being played outside of India. The 13th edition of the cash-rich league, which was postponed in March due to coronavirus pandemic, will now be held in the UAE from September.
But Steve Smith, who plays for New South Wales in domestic cricket, has confirmed that he will play IPL over domestic cricket should the T20 World Cup be postponed.
"I think when you're playing for your country at a World Cup, that's the pinnacle for one-day or T20 cricket, so of course I'd prefer to play in that. But if that doesn't happen and the IPL's there, and they postpone it, then so be it. IPL's also a terrific tournament as a domestic tournament. So that's out of everyone's control at the moment, players are just doing what we're told and going where we need to go and playing whatever's on at that stage,” he said.
BCCI is hoping to stage IPL in the third quarter of the year as T20 World Cup is all but set to be postponed.
